I'm not a racer, is SHIFT for me?
YES. There is no doubt that SHIFT will prepare you for any event(s) you have on your calendar. However, SHIFT also serves those that want to be part of a team or community that fosters accountability, teamwork, and the quest to make lifelong fitness a priority.
I've been riding my bike my whole life, what skills are you talking about?
Cycling is about generating and maintaining momentum over varied terrain and in an environment that is constantly trying to slow you down. Skills such as reading the terrain, knowing how to shift, and descending safely with speed are just a few key skills that can be constantly refined.
Can I really improve on 1 hour a day, 3 days a week?
YES! A common belief in the endurance world is that extreme volume is the only way to get fit and fast. It's simply not true. The quality of the time you spend on getting fit is what matters. Our Co-founder, Toni, completed her 10th marathon in Boston where she set a marathon PR by 11 minutes, on 3 days a week!
I ride a couple times a week and do a group ride on saturday, aren't I already training enough?
The average group ride/run out there tends to be a showcase for the most fit. It starts as a large group and by the end, only a few are still standing. Going super hard in a state of complete chaos is NOT training and leads to very little progress. Good training consists of balancing workloads in a wide variety of cardiovascular zones. Fitness is about enhancing all of your cardio zones and preparing your body for years to come.
I'm a busy professional and have kids, how much time do I need to really impact my fitness?
With the proper training plan laid out specifically for you, if executed properly, the average recreational athlete can see about 20% improvement in the first 90 days on just 5 hours per week.
